New Kingdom | Poetry (video, click to watch)

Video, Poem originally posted March 31, 2020 - New Kingdom

The subject of the heavens is expressed through different mediums, and I am not exempt from this subject of expression. I am to acknowledge where my gift comes from.

This poem was written during the pandemic when everyone was doing their part to keep the collective entertained online. For many of us, connecting online was all we had.

Several months after I shared this poem I was mocked for being "a good person". In that moment, I was completely taken back. I came to the realization that I am all that I have. I am and will forever be the closest "person" that I will ever have a relationship with.

I realized how important my relationship with myself was, because the person that was mocking me was ideally suppose to be setting an example for me. Who doesn't want "good people" around them? Especially, during a time when the world is collectively experiencing great loss. The year 2020 really hammered in what I always knew to be true in my life, but wasn't socially acceptable to be expressed without catching a side-eye.

You never know what thread of hope someone is holding onto. Letting people know that they are not alone can be comforting to them. My spiritual beliefs have undergone plutonic transformation since 2020, but I still hope to inspire anyone who may need to piece together a spiritual journey as their last glimmer of hope. If you have been mocked to feel isolated and alone, just know, you are around the wrong people.

Your Majesty.
I want to be free,
Like a sparkling raindrop,
On a bright green leaf,
Without care if it dries there,
Under the sun, on that day.
Take me away!
Evaporating like breath,
Freed!

I want to be free,
Like dirt picked up by soles,
Carried away to a distant land.
Lord, blow me like the wind
Ripples from Los Angeles to London!

Your Majesty, I want to be freed
From the temple of my body,
Far away from the hurt in my heart,
Cause I can’t wash them off of my skin.

I want to be set free!

I am a slave, captured by my own free will and decisions.
I want to be free
From anxiety, abuse, and addiction,
Help me with temptation, depression, and discouragement,
Help me to find forgiveness, peace, and godliness.

I want to be reborn.
Lord, I want a new life,
In your Kingdom.
I want to be set free.

I want to be free,
From everything I was labeled to be,
I want to be who you created me to be,
I want to see myself, the way you look at me.
Perfected by the Lord, loved by the Father, created by God.

I want to be free
Like daybreak, with God’s grace and mercy,
Replenished.
