Survivor

Photo by Andrey Grushnikov from Pexels

I’ve lived, days.
Still here.
Alive!

Now, do you understand?
The months, all those weeks,
The days.

Time.
All those months,
Weeks.

Lifetime.

Better Choices

There is no more confusion,
Knowing for certain, the answer is ‘no’,
With ‘no’ I am set free,
No longer holding on to hope,
Give me a definite ‘no’,
So I can let go.

I’m going to say ‘no’ for you,
I want to release myself from you,
You are saying ‘no’, right?
No response is a response, right?
Hanging onto any possibility,
Enslaves me,
I’m going to let it be ‘no’,
By saying ‘yes’ to me.

School of Fish

In daylight,
Your encouragement outshined
Your gaslighting,
Your charming ways,
Charitable displays,
Leaving impressions of thoughtfulness,
I felt ashamed for second-guessing,
Your true intentions, reading a lower vibration
Of a heartless individual.

With your untainted reputation,
Someone who was always giving,
My gut feeling read you as an opportunist,
Always showing up for 'the cause',
With a hidden agenda, of getting what you want.

Sitting on the Porch

Photo by Daniel Spase from Pexels

Scattered Showers forecasted for tomorrow,
Wash the salt on sidewalks after interviews.

From the faucet coughing out of project housing,
You fill your cup to sip brown flavored water,
While you amuse yourself at the park of the unemployment line.

Children flip on old mattresses,
Expired after adult tapes.

Young girls make ponytails with pretty print thongs,
Kissing older men,
Their hair don't stay up for long.

Mix-tape

Photo by rikka ameboshi from Pexels

You treated me like crap,
It’s a good thing that I’m treating myself
Better!
There was no place in the world
I wanted to be
If I had to be, me.

I believed in you
Uplifted you,
No reciprocity,
Greater than grand,
The Grand Poohbah,
Crowned and exalted,
You stood tall on my support,
With two feet firmly planted.

Spoke it into existence,
Believed in it, when you didn't believe,
Until it became a reality,
You floated on the power of my prayers,
From the breath of my words,
The air from my lungs,
From my heart given with love,
Completely drained my energy,
Nada in return,
Burned your mix-tape.

Alone

Photo by Rakicevic Nenad from Pexels

I was loved once,
Didn’t know it,
The way you knew me,
Now a memory,
I now feel it,
Know it.

How did I miss this?
Didn’t I wish this?
I once had it,
Allowed myself to take advantage of it,
Not appreciate it.

Run this moment by me again,
Rewind my carelessness.
How didn’t I know what I had?
I was defiantly loved once,
I see it now,
Now that I’m alone.

Aquamarine

Casila - Photo by Casila

I want to replace the waves of hurt,
I see in your eyes,
When looking at the ocean and beyond,
I wish my touch could wash over your pain,
Bring you back to shore,
Like the ends of waves softly touch the sand.

I hope I can dive that deep into darkness,
I pray for guidance as I search deep within your soul,
Where hope is void and love is no more,
Where there is doubt,
My only hope is that you’d grab my hand,
Believe in me enough, to float.

Jazz

Photo by Matthias Groeneveld from Pexels

Like the pause in-between words
Of a crooning love song, I’m engulfed.
Notes hanging in the air between breaths,
Richly accompanying the voice,
Sung like protest for my broken heart,
The declaration of my love, rendered with conviction
As I hold my wine glass up high, rising to its truth,
The blatant truth of my heart’s desire for you,
With hips swaying and shoulders rocking,
Twirling around to the sound of jazz,
In my living room,
Put the needle back on the record.

Full Moon

Photo by Alex Powell from Pexels

I’m somebody without you,
Got my black leather dress on,
High vibrations, shining bright
Sexy silhouette in moonlight,
God’s gift placed in a womb,
Let me check my reflection one last time,
Uniquely created,
Strap these heels on, stepping high tonight,
To exist with or without you,
Grab my purse,
I’m ready to go.

This reggae beat,
Pounding on my heart,
New beginnings,
Beating in my chest,
DJ play my favorite song,
Feels so good,
Knocked you right out,
Out of my life,
Out of thoughts.

No Introduction

Photo by Casila - Mona Lisa

Nobody knows her,
The woman who lifted your self-esteem,
The woman who inspired you to find yourself,
Ow, and a much-needed style,
Inspired you to educate yourself on well-being,
Spirituality,
She was the fire that reignited your zest for life,
She complimented you on your natural talents,
Your natural gift to the world,
The gift you swept under the rug,
The gift that now feeds you, and finances your vision,
Your dreams,
But, nobody knows her.

You never introduced her to your family,
None of your acquaintances,
None of your friends,
None of your business colleagues,
None of the neighbors in the neighborhood you now live in.

Fast Fashion

Mass-produced rags,
Artificial dyed synthetic fibers,
Sewn fast,
Uniforms,
Cheaply made, slave labor,
Priced high.

Depression

Photo by Juan Pablo Serrano Arenas from Pexels

When life is great,
Excellent,
Perfect,
Drifting far,
Shadows near,
Lost touch,
I can’t feel,
What carried me?
Throughout the day,
Disconnected,
From everyday,
Life.

Poetic Prompts

I remember that night,
One look back, to hold my eyes,
I knew that was goodbye,
Dunking soiled underwear in a bucket,
Washing away the guilt,
Nobody’s perfect,
Submerged in water, bathed clean,
Silk nightgown, clean sheets,
A fluffed pillow and binaural beats,
Music therapy.

Extinction

The last of its kind!
The last of this type of person in my life,
The last of the filth, the ill-willed,
The last time I see the soles of your shoes,
Walking all over me!
I was just time,
It finally ran out on you,
I was just space,
An ornament,
A keepsake of your better days.

Love in the Rain

Photo by Mario Cuadros from Pexels

Scattered showers are forecasted this evening,
The air turned a melancholy grey
As the temperature dropped crisp ice cold,
I grabbed a heavy cardigan,
Lit a candle to match its melancholy,
Settled into a chair to sip a cup of tea,
Prepared my ears for the rain’s serenading depth,
Watching Heaven orchestrate moments picturesque.

Staring at the pavement,
Watching the rain make puddles for reflection,
A grand symphony of sound,
Rain carried by the winds stringing its sound,
Swirling rain wrapping itself around
Reality, and the simplicity of life.
Watching the rain fall down on people,
Tapping their shoulders, like the touching of God’s tears,
Humbling my soul,
As my cup touches my lips warmed with compassion,
Watching the frantic expressions on faces
Stressfully running to their destinations,
Watching the one walking slowly drenched in defeat,
I can feel the heaviness of his feet
As he struggles to move on with life,
The day darkens,
And it has nothing to do with the rain.

You're a Flame

Photo by Jasmine Carter from Pexels

I’m attracted to the way,
You support my dreams,
I’m attracted to the way,
You let me call the shots,
You pull the trigger on mediocrity,
Encouraging me to dream bigger!

I’m attracted to your spark,
When you see me ignited,
I’m attracted to your calm,
In this world of chaos,
I need a solder,
Reliable support.

I’m attracted to your walk of life,
Your godly step beside me,
I’m attracted to your flame,
That burns forever for me,
Together,
We are fire!
